SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
In his five years at GCA, Mr. Nelson has been a technical advisor to Sales and Marketing in addition to his involvement as a key consultant to many of GCA's closest clients. Mr. Nelson has been responsible for developing key applications that have addressed many of his clients' needs. Some of these include:

  • a server consolidation project which took 26 different network monitoring servers and brought them to a footprint of only 2 servers. This included minimizing both the hardware requirements, software requirements, software licenses, and therefore customer costs.

  • a web-enabled Project Management tracking tool utilizing an Oracle database, Netscape's Enterprise (web) and Directory Servers, and both server and client side JavaScript programming.

  • a web-enabled Document Management system that allows users to locate, distribute, and manage corporate information. This particular effort was built utilizing Perl, JavaScript, ASP, and various databases.

  • a web-enabled Help Desk system to allow users and/or help desk agents the ability to update records in a Netscape Directory Server. This particular project utilized the Netscape Directory Server, Perl, and client-side JavaScript. The appropriate access control mechanisms were put into place to ensure that users could only update their information.

  • Migration of 17,000 users from 7 different HR database systems to a common (web-enabled) directory server.

Mr. Nelson has recently taken his experience as both consultant and developer and begun instructing during "off project" weeks. His focus has been primarily with Electronic Commerce Infrastructure courses and has focused on those offered by iPlanet.

It was during this time that he managed a three-year cost reduction project that effectively resulted in corporate savings in excess of $14,000,000. He was Team Lead on the company's Internet Advisory Committee, Coding Standards Committee, Software Reuse Committee, Engineering Library Team, and Working Conditions Improvement Team. He pioneered the development and administration of new build and release processes of several engineering projects using Atria's ClearCase tool. He also served as Webmaster, responsible for development of Intranet site design, setup, and maintenance featuring a Virtual Learning Resource Center incorporating document distribution, EIA/TIA standards deployment, employee interactivity, database manipulation, and information sharing. He also built the prototype for AT&T Paradyne’s external WWW site. As a software engineer, Mr. Nelson spearheaded various software-related projects ranging from extension of the IBM channel, facsimile programming for the Accucom modem product line, and Operating System development. He also developed hardware/firmware maintenance processes critical to earning ISO/9000 certification.
